Running a Mosquito Season Program: Monthly Visits and Package Plans

Mosquito work is a different animal from general pest. It is seasonal, it is outdoors, it is priced by the yard rather than the house, and customers judge it by one simple test: can they sit on the patio in the evening? A good mosquito program is some of the easiest recurring revenue a pest company can add, as long as it runs on schedule.

How Mosquito Fits Next to Quarterly

General pest plans are priced off the house, as covered in Pricing Quarterly Pest Plans Off Square Feet and Perimeter. Mosquito is priced off the yard, and it runs on its own schedule beside the quarterly plan.

In PestBossPro, mosquito is its own service on the address. A customer can have a quarterly general pest plan and a mosquito program at the same time, and each one comes due on its own. When you circle a route on the Waiting List, due mosquito stops and due quarterly stops in the same area come along together.

Two Ways to Set It Up

Most companies run mosquito one of two ways:

Package plans pair well with prepayment, where the customer pays for the season up front and the prepayment is used as each visit is completed. That is covered in Prepaying a Mosquito Package Plan: How Program Prepayments Work.

Pricing Off the Yard

Mosquito treatments go where mosquitoes rest: shrubs, the underside of leaves, shaded areas, fence lines and the edges of the property. The size of the yard drives the time and the product.

PestBossPro measures mosquito (yard) square feet from the satellite map on the property, so you can set price tiers the same way you do for general pest. An illustrative example:

These are example numbers. Build your own from your costs and your market. A mosquito barrier mix set up in your product mixes, with its rate per gallon, lets the tech app work out what to load for the day and record what was applied.

Starting and Ending the Season

The start of the season is the busiest sign-up window. Customers notice mosquitoes on the first warm evening and call. A few weeks before that, send a text or email to last year's mosquito customers offering the new season. Many will sign up again before the phones start ringing.

The end of the season needs a clear rule. With a package plan, the season ends when the last visit is done. With monthly recurring service, decide on an end date and remove the service from the address, or let the customer know when the last visit will be. Either way, do not let mosquito stops keep coming due in November when nobody wants them.

Weather and Mosquito Stops

Mosquito treatments are sensitive to weather. Rain right after an application, high wind or extreme heat can all be reasons to skip. When a technician skips for weather, they tap Skip with a note, and the stop stays due on the Waiting List for the next route.

Wind speed and direction and temperature are part of the chemical application record kept for each completed treatment, alongside the products, rates, area treated and drift-prevention notes. Many states require application records like these, so check your state's lead agency rules and always follow the product label.

Keeping Customers Happy

Mosquito customers want to know when you are coming, mostly so pets can be inside and the kids' toys picked up. Night-before texts and arrived texts handle that. After each visit, an automatic post-treatment email can tell them how long to stay off treated areas.

Between visits, customers can request service from the customer app or reply to a text if they are still getting bitten. A quick re-service before a backyard party wins a customer for years.

Mosquito as an Add-On

Your quarterly plan customers are the easiest mosquito sale you will make. They already trust you, their card is on file, and your trucks are already in their neighborhood. Offer mosquito to every quarterly customer each spring. For how mosquito programs fit with quarterly, rodent and termite work, see the recurring pest control software overview.
