Equipment Used: Recording the Sprayer, Duster or Bait Gun on Pest Control Chemical Records

A record that says a mosquito barrier mix went onto 6,000 square feet of yard is useful. A record that adds “backpack mist blower” is more useful, because equipment shapes droplet size, coverage and drift. The equipment field is short, but it completes the picture of how the product was applied.

Equipment Completes the How

The target pest and site, covered in Target Pest and Site Treated: The Two Chemical Record Fields Pest Techs Rush, say what and where. Equipment says how. Together with the application method on the product and the drift-prevention notes, it tells a reader how the product reached the target.

Each PestBossPro application record carries the equipment used alongside the mix, products, rates, amounts, area and conditions.

Name Equipment Consistently

Pick a short list of names for the equipment your company actually uses and have every tech use the same words. A typical list:

Consistent names make reports readable. If one tech writes “BP,” another “backpack” and a third “pump sprayer” for the same thing, nobody reading the report can tell whether they mean the same tool.

Put the list on the techs' cheat sheet and on a card in each truck. When you add a new piece of equipment, such as a second mist blower or a new duster, add its name to the list before it goes out, so the first record that uses it already reads like the rest. If a tool is retired, take it off the list so nobody keeps writing it out of habit.

Equipment and Drift

Different tools carry different drift potential. A mist blower produces fine droplets and pushes them into foliage; that is what makes it good for mosquitoes and what makes it a drift concern near property lines. A coarse fan nozzle on a backpack, held close to a foundation, drifts very little. A duster puts product into a void where drift hardly applies.

That is why equipment and drift notes belong together. “Backpack mist blower; switched to hand wand along north fence near neighbor's garden” shows a tech choosing the right tool for each part of the job. Follow the label's directions on application equipment and droplet size, and look at how wind and drift are recorded in Drift Prevention Notes: Writing Them on Every Pest Control Application.

Calibration Ties Equipment to Amounts

The amount of product on a record depends on the mix's rates per gallon and the gallons applied. Gallons applied depend on the equipment: its output, its pressure and how the tech moves. A sprayer putting out much more than expected will put more product on a property than the area calls for, even with a perfect mix.

Calibrate sprayers regularly and keep a simple calibration log for each one: the date, the output measured and who checked it. That log is not part of the application record, but it backs up the amounts on every record made with that sprayer.

Chemical reports help spot calibration problems. If one truck's records show consistently higher amounts per linear foot or square foot than the others, check that truck's equipment first.

Equipment Care and Records

Equipment also touches records through cleaning and changeover. If the same backpack is used for a perimeter mix in the morning and an interior mix in the afternoon, it needs to be cleaned between them as the labels direct. A tank that held one product should not carry residue into the next.

Many companies simplify this by assigning equipment to mixes: one backpack for perimeter, a separate handheld for interior, the mist blower only for mosquito. It makes records cleaner and cuts the risk of cross-contamination. With trucks assigned to techs in PestBossPro, it is easy to keep each truck's equipment set consistent too.

Keep It Short, Keep It True

The equipment field does not need a paragraph. One or two words from your standard list, plus a note when the tech switched tools for part of the job, is enough. What matters is that it matches what the tech actually used.
