Fitting One-Time Pest Jobs Into Recurring Routes: Wasps, Ants and Bed Bug Inspections

Recurring accounts are the steady base of a pest company. One-time jobs are the extra income, and often the first contact with a customer who later signs up for a plan. A wasp nest by the front door, an ant problem in the kitchen, a bed bug inspection after a trip, a termite inspection for a home sale. Each one needs to land somewhere on the schedule.

Like a Call-Back, but New

One-time jobs schedule a lot like the re-services in Scheduling Call-Backs and Re-Services Between Quarterly Pest Control Visits. The difference is that the customer is often new, the job may need a quote first, and the visit is a chance to sell a recurring plan.

How One-Time Jobs Come In

Whatever the source, the result is a one-time job that needs a truck and a day.

Placing the Job

One-time jobs do not come due on the Waiting List. They go straight onto the dispatch board. The goal is to put them on a route already passing nearby:

Different Jobs, Different Timing

Longer jobs that need the customer at home are better placed first, with the route built around them, than squeezed in at the end.

Keep Room on the Route

The easiest way to fit one-time jobs is to plan for them. In busy seasons, leave a stop or two of slack on each route. If no one-time jobs come in, the tech finishes early or picks up a not-due-yet account nearby. If they do come in, there is space without pushing recurring work past its due date.

The risk of not leaving room shows up on the Waiting List. If one-time jobs keep pushing recurring accounts aside, overdue pins start appearing. That is a sign to schedule one-time work more carefully or add capacity.

Turning One-Time Into Recurring

A one-time job is often the best time to sell a plan. The customer has a problem, you solved it, and they are thinking about pests. The tech can mention the quarterly plan, and the office can follow up with a quote. Estimate follow-up emails help if the customer does not answer right away. In the customer app, customers can also sign up for services and see your pricing.

When a one-time customer signs up for a quarterly plan, the initial service is the next step. That is covered in Scheduling the Initial Service: Getting a New Pest Control Account Onto the Route.

Records and Follow-Up

One-time treatments that use tracked products get application records like any other job. Post-treatment instruction emails go out automatically. The invoice is created when the tech taps Complete, and a card on file can be charged on the spot. That matters for one-time customers, who are less likely to pay a mailed invoice than a recurring customer.
